What makes it different from a chatbot?

A general chatbot only knows what you paste into it. Sammy works inside your business: he can see your jobs, quotes, clients and invoices, and he knows which one you’ve got open, so “this job” just works. Ask the way you’d ask a mate in the office.

How it works

1. Open Sammy from any page. Tap the round button in the bottom corner, or press ⌘J or Ctrl+J. On a computer he opens down the right-hand side, so you can keep working next to him. On your phone he opens full screen.
2. Type or talk. Tap the microphone and say it, up to two minutes at a time. Your words appear in the box so you can fix anything he misheard before you send.
3. Point him at the job. With a job, quote, client or invoice open, say “this job”. Anywhere else, use the number or a name. “Est 12” works too.
4. He shows you what he found. Results come back as cards with the number, the client, the status and the amount. Tap one to open it.
5. You OK anything important. Before a change that matters, he shows a Needs your OK card that says exactly what will happen. Nothing changes until you tap Approve.

What you can ask him

• Find things. “Find the Jones kitchen quote.” “Which invoices are overdue?” Or “What’s my week look like?” for a rundown of quotes waiting, money owing and jobs on the go.
• Add costs and hours to a job. “Add $550 of tiles from Beaumonts, inc GST.” “Log 8 hours for Dave today.” He tells you how the job is tracking against its budget. See job costing.
• File receipts. Send him a photo of a docket or a supplier’s PDF invoice. He works out which job it’s for, tells you how he knows, and shows what he read for you to check before it’s saved.
• Write to a client. “Tell Sarah the deck quote still stands and we can start Monday.” He reads your conversation with them first, writes it the way you would, and sends it from your Message Centre only when you approve it.
• Start a quote. Tell him who it’s for and what the job is, and he adds the client and starts a draft. The pricing happens in the quote itself. See AI quoting software.
• Write your payment schedule. He reads the quote and places the stages, and never asks for more up front than the law allows where the job is. See progress claims.
• Look things up. A product’s sizes, what an Australian Standard or a council says, or a link you paste in. He says where the answer came from, and a price off the web never goes into a quote.
• Help with Sammy itself. How to do something, what a status means, or your own settings, like “What’s my labour markup?”

What Sammy never does

• Delete anything.
• Send your clients a quote, an invoice, a receipt or a text message.
• Email a client without your OK.
• Push anything to Xero, Simpro, ServiceM8 or Ascora.
• Change the lines or prices in a quote. That happens in the quote’s own chat.

When he changes something that already existed, like a quote’s status or a client’s details, you get an Undo button for a day.

Questions tradies ask

What can Sammy see?

Only what you can see and change in the app. On a team that includes your team’s jobs and quotes, and anything he changes is recorded as changed by you. Your chats with him are your own: your team can’t read them.

Will he send anything without asking?

No. Sending an email, marking an invoice paid, moving a job to its next step and saving a cost from a receipt all wait on a Needs your OK card. If you don’t answer within 15 minutes, nothing changes.

Can he price a job from here?

No. He can start the quote, but the pricing happens inside the quote, where he can see your photos and plans.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The Sammy button sits just above the tabs at the bottom of the screen. Left-handed? Touch and hold it, then drag it to the other side.

Can I talk to a real person?

Yes. Ask him, or tell him something isn’t working, and he writes it up for the Sammy team with your chat and screenshots, once you approve it. If it’s urgent, call us on +61 468 029 097 during business hours.
